| The Textile Studio Museum (or MuST meaning Museo Studio del Tessuto) was officially founded in 1998 as a result of a transformation process of the private collection of antique textiles collected by Antonio Ratti over a period of forty years. MuST pursues the dual objective of preserving the impressive historical heritage and of rendering it public by means of research, study and communication. Besides being an extremely valuable historical document (over 400.000 specimens of the most diverse origin), the collection represents a unique instrument within this area of study as it offers a particularly quick and exhaustive reference system provided by the Multimedia Catalogue devised by Chiara Buss in 1997. The impressive research campaign and the complete cataloguing of the collection was carried out with the assistance of the greatest experts in various fields of textile history: Anna Maria Donadoni Roveri, director of Museo Egizio in Turin, Irmgard Peter-Müller, curator of the Historical Museum in Basel, Monique Lévi-Strauss and Antonio Aimi, the world's leading experts, respectively, in the history of cashmere shawls and pre-Columbian art, Donatella Failla, director of the Chiossone Museum in Genoa, and Chiara Buss, since 1994 curator and director of MuST until 2006. Each one of these experts supervised the publication of his own historical research. Each year MuST organises two courses on the history of textiles, each structured around a specific theme and with two different timetables, addressed to scholars and students of the history of art as well as to designers and collectors. Open to the public by appointment from Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 1pm; 2pm to 5.30pm. ph. +39.031.233.224; fax +39.031.233.249 Registration card |
